How much money should I budget for food for two people?
For two people, a week’s shopping in Germany costs around €100 on average. The exact amount depends on various factors, such as the place of purchase and the quantity of products bought. According to the Federal Statistical Office, the average figure is calculated as follows:
The monthly expenditure on food, drinks and other products amounts to €439. Divided by the factor 4.33 (weeks per month), this results in €101.39, which is rounded down to €100.
However, this figure is only an approximation. It is based on the assumption that the weekly shop only consists of food and drink and is identical for every couple… But as we all know, exceptions prove the rule.
